*412 - prawns

Partner Dinner? (:

Yasmin Good idea, I'll add that to my To Bake List! Thanks!

Justin You are in BRUNEI ):

HIIIII! HIIIII!! Yes I photoshop them sometimes, mostly to correct colour balance (eg. when artificial lighting turns everybody yellow) and brightness (eg. when lighting is too dim). And to resize and add stupid captions, of course ;)

Wanjun Did you (and EVERYBODY ELSE OMG) make the cupcakes! They're good right? (:

Shib You're baccckkk! (: Funny you mentioned that now, just when I had crab pasta for lunch and butter crab for dinner yesterday :P Haha let's go out anyway!

Passer by Thank you, they're fun to make, you should try (:

Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday: Four glorious days before he left for Brunei last night. 10 days till he's back, 1 day at home to catch up on lost sleep, booking back in the next day, probably staying in for another 10 days or so, and I can count on less than 1 hand the number of times he'll be booking out after that before I leave.

Every time we meet it's magical, we don't have to have a destination or an agenda or surprises up our sleeves, it can be as simple as having a meal out and vegetating until it's time to leave for the next meal somewhere else, or him on my computer watching anime with my sister and me at my desk making earrings. There's no such thing as being bored or having nothing to do, doing nothing together is doing something together, and now where each day we meet means one less I get to spend with him before I leave, every little moment matters.

3 years ago, and the next 4 years to come were such a remote thought, and the idea was to get through the 3 years first before we tackle the next 4. Now that we've finally struggled our way through (and I do mean struggled but I'm glad we struggled so hard or we might not have made it here), the "remote" next 4 years are within reach, and I'm not sure what to do except to pray hard and cling on as hard as we can (perhaps once a week, virtually, through Skype, because that's about all that the NS schedule allows, at least until the end of this year, after which I hope they allow officers to have a computer to send emails out from in camp).

Yup.

End of my tiresome ramblings.

Went prawning on Thursday! It was quite funny when we all saw each other and we realised that we were all matching: Liru and I in striped polos, Guanghao and Justin in white sports-type tops. Haha! And BLEUGH to GH who said that stripes make you look fat(ter). (But it is true la actually hahaha.)

The race to see which team catches more prawns begins!

5 minutes later, Evelyn gets impatient.

In the next 1 hour 45 minutes, this was the fruit of our labour and vigilant efforts!

... yeah, 1 prawn by Team Liru & GH.

Sigh.

In the end, the owner took pity on us and decided to give us 1 worm as bait instead of the useless fishcake that the prawns didn't even bother nibbling on. And using the worm, we caught 3 more prawns in the last 10 minutes or so.

In the end it was an exciting draw between Team L&G and Team E&J, 2:2. Exciting because we were down by one, and when the man said "shi jian dao le" I yanked out our rod and lo and behold, I yanked out a prawn as well :D

Yeah we caught 4 prawns in 2 hours, but lesson learnt: prawns like earthworms and not fishcake, if our success in the last 10 minutes is anything to go by. It wasn't even about poor technique at the beginning (I think), the prawns simply weren't interested in the fishcake.

(See what I mean by the matching outfits?)

We headed off to Fish & Co after that, in hopes that the chef would cook our prawns for us (yes, we seriously asked) but they refused to. Aiyah not fun ): So we settled for the next best: eating their prawns instead. Hahaha.

Nice day out with Liru, and the funny thing is that I saw her on the next 2 days as well hehe. Many more Liru days to come hopefully, I've missed my Boyfriend #2!!

Oh yeah. Justin came over the next day and we cooked our prawns! (Liru & GH gave their prawns to us, they didn't seem keen on bringing them home, thank you so much!) We selected our ingredients in random quantities and it turned out really superb. Chopped garlic, fresh lime juice, fresh chopped basil from my windowsill haha, a bit of salt and pepper. The prawns were really fresh and springy and juicy, and supersized to boot. One of the yummiest we've ever had, and not just because we caught them :P

Mmmm.
